A PLACE TO REST

On a quiet lane, appropriately named Skiers’ Rest,
this home was designed for replenishment, rejuvenation & reconnection.

We look to architecture to support a way of life that appealed to us. Our domestic buildings were conceived as stage sets for actors in an idealized drama about contemporary existence.
— Alain de Botton

“The Barn” on Skiers’ Rest Lane was meant to be a second chance. A marriage in search of a lifeline, the 1.4 acre plot nestled just outside the southern boundaries of Whistler, was purchased to build on hope. But that’s a lot to ask of architecture. Despite it’s inability to save the marriage, it became a place of retreat, refuge, repair and reimagining for the whole family - as a whole and individually - as they navigated many challenges in their annus horribilius post-completion. Since sold, the former couple, now best friends, used the profit to set-up a retirement fund for their only child as he dedicates his career to saving the world from climate catastrophe.
